A modern triple slider, finished to honor a nearly century-old plaster exterior.
Homes built in the 1920s carry details that are easy to lose during a window replacement. This single-family house in Elgin, built in 1928, has a textured, painted plaster facade with decorative elements framing its openings, and any new window had to respect that exterior. WarmDreams replaced three small, worn windows with one white PVC triple sliding window.
On the outside, we fitted window capping matched to the facade’s decorative plaster. That kept the profile consistent with the rest of the house, so the change looks deliberate rather than patched in. Inside, new interior trim was installed and painted to frame the wider opening cleanly, giving the room a finished look from both sides of the glass. The homeowners now have a single sliding window with the easy upkeep of vinyl, set into an exterior that still looks the way it did in 1928. It shows how a window replacement in an older Elgin home can modernize without compromising architectural character.
The Challenge
The three old windows sat in a wood frame that had rotted through. Installing new windows into it would have meant sealing a new unit against wood that was already failing.
The Solution
We tore out the decayed wood and installed a new frame before setting a single triple sliding window in place. The new unit sits on a sound base, with the rotted material gone.
